I think this is the best deal the Cubs could have possibly done to keep him. If he had hit the market, his contract would have been astronomical.

Zambrano's deal
It's not my money (actually, we don't know whose money it is, yet) and the Cubs seem to have an unlimited supply, so from that perspective, this is a great deal. Zambrano is one of the true aces of the game and is still young. Thus, to have him through 2012 is great. I'm happy.
The contract
Looks good to me. If there's any pitcher that you'd want to give a 5-year, $90 million deal to, it's a young power pitcher with a long track record of success and no history of injuries.
