Trachsel's Catchers

Going through the list of Cubs' catchers who have caught Steve Trachsel that Phil Bencomo at Cub Town compiled brings back some memories. I really don't remember Tyler Houston catching that many games. And Brian Dorsett? If they weren't in Cubs' uniforms a decade apart, I would have confused him with Brian Dayett.

Dorsett

I'll admit to not remembering Dorsett. I remember Dayett, though, because when I was 8 every Cubs player named "Brian" was a big deal to me (also a big deal - Keith Moreland shares my birthday).

Dayett, Walker, and Palmeiro

When I was 8, during the final month of the 1986 season, I was certain that Rafeal Palmeiro, Chico Walker, and Brian Dayett were going to roam the Cubs' outfield for the next decade.

1986

What I remember from that season was basically, a) Ryne Sandberg is awesome (even though it wasn't one of his best), b) Shawon Dunston throws really hard, c) "The Penguin" is a funny nickname for Ron Cey, and d) why don't the Cubs have anyone that can hit more than 21 homers when other teams have guys that can hit 40? In retrospect, all good points.

I also saw my first Cubs game in person.

RE: 1986

Other memories from 1986: e) Why does Rick Sutcliffe have such a weird windup?; f) Thad Bosley gets a hit every time he pinch-hits, so why don't the Cubs just start him?
