A little good news? Maybe!

I like Floyd as a person, but thankfully, he won't reach the incentives in his contract necessary to automatically trigger his option for 2008, and if he were to retire, that would preclude the Cubs from bringing him back at all.

I make no secret of what I hope happens in our outfield next season. I hope Floyd is not back. I hope JJ is traded this winter. Soriano should be moved to right field, and Murton should be back in left. As for center field, if Pie does not step up, perhaps Fuld will.

The only way I see where the Cubs should get into the free agent market for an outfielder this winter is if the Yankees were actually stupid enough to not trigger their option on Bobby Abreu for 2008. If Abreu were to become available, I would hope the Cubs became serious contenders for his services because his kind of plate discipline is exactly what this team needs. Abreu's number are down this season, but even his .821 OPS would have been a Godsend out of right field, and his defense is solid, though not spectacular.
