Griese Gets Another Week
The AP reports:
Griese's performance in Sunday's 37-27 loss at Detroit probably raised as many questions as it answered, but coach Lovie Smith clarified a few issues on Monday."Brian is our quarterback, yes," he said when asked if Griese will start the next game.
And Smith was emphatic about something else. He won't seek an offensive consultant's help.
"No, absolutely not. Next question," he said.

Griese
I think at this point, they sort of have to commit to Griese, don't they? At least for a few weeks. It's not like anyone could expect Orton to be much better.
More to the point, I think it's been made clear that this team is seriously short on offensive talent. I called the Benson thing back when he was drafted, and it was obvious coming into the year that the line was older and that Muhammad was declining, but I wouldn't have expected that the entire offense would look so bad this year.
In retrospect, it's easy to wonder why this wasn't completely obvious from the start.
New strategy on offense
An offensively-challenged Bears team. It's not like there's a history of that or anything.
Here's my strategy: Make Brad Maynard the quarterback. Have him take the snap and then turn around and punt it to Devin Hester, who is standing 30-40 yards back. He scores, or at least puts the team in field goal range, 1 out of every 3 times, which means a score on every possession, except for the times he fumbles.
Lovie Smith would never do it, but Tony LaRussa might, and LaRussa's not busy right now.
Maynard at QB
You know, I laughed at this at first, but then I realized that it actually makes a certain amount of sense, and now I'm just sad. Hope you're proud of yourself.
