Cubs Sign Jim Edmonds

From the Wire....Cubs Sign Jim Edmonds -

It's official....Jim Hendry announced moments after Wednesday night's game, during a press conference, that the Cubs have agreed to a contract with outfielder Jim Edmonds. Felix Pie was optioned down to Triple-A and will join the I-Cubs in Round Rock on Thursday.

Jim Edmonds will be in a Cubs' uniform for Thursday's game against the Padres.

This is such a Cubs move. Hoping for Gary Gaetti circa 1998. Probably getting Goose Gossage circa 1988. Welcome back to Iowa, Mr. Pie. Work your way back up quickly, because the Cubs are still trying to replace the guy who roamed center field from 1972-1976.

I fear for the worst: probably getting Steve Trachsel circa 2007. Gossage was at least something close to an average reliever with the Cubs - Edmonds has to improve significantly from his time in SD just to hit replacement level. Or to match Pie's production, for that matter.
