Minor League Roundup: April 27, 2005

Valdez and Marshall have excellent outings, Pie continues to hit well, and Sing out with sore groin.

West Tenn wins 7-2. Starting pitcher Raul Valdez went 6 shutout innings, striking out 7 and issuing no free passes. Centerfielder Felix Pie went 3-4 with a homer. He's hitting .358/.403/.657 on the year. Says Diamond Jaxx manager Bobby Dickerson, as quoted in the Jackson Sun, "Since I've become a manager, he's the first guy I've come across who looks like a big-leaguer in Double-A. He's not in awe of anything. He's got great skills and has no tension at all. It's fun to watch." The Jackson Sun also reports that first baseman/outfielder Brandon Sing left yesterday's game with a sore groin. He did not play in this one.

Daytona wins 5-0. Starting pitcher Sean Marshall threw 7 shutout innings, striking out 8 and walking just 1.

Iowa and Peoria had the night off.
