The state of Illinois is 395 miles long. It’s hard to travel more than 50 or so miles one way or another without running into a newly constructed sports facility.

Alexian Field in Schaumburg has a manual scoreboard and its own set of bleacher bums in an effort to duplicate Wrigley Field in the suburbs. The playing field is built to the exact specifications of the Friendly Confines, right down to the dip in the right field corner that tends to turn doubles into triples.An Internet description of the park reads, “And while it may not have the faded footprints of Ernie Banks or Billy Williams, what it lacks in history, it more than makes up for in parking.”
