Brewers Increase Ticket Prices For Cubs Games

Cubs fans who take over Miller Park when the Cubs visit Milwaukee are going to have to pay a slightly higher price this year.  The Milwaukee Business Journal reports that the Brewers are implementing variable pricing for the first time in their history in 2005.  Increased pricing will apply to thirteen games: the 10 against the Cubs and the 3 against the New York Yankees.  Says Rick Schlesinger, Brewers executive vice president of business operations, "From the studies we've done, it is clear that a large number of fans for these games come from out of town."

I'd love to know what these "studies" looked liked.  If it was anything more than Mr. Schlesinger writing memos to himself along the lines of, "I hear lots of cheering when bad things happen to the home team" and "Some guy named Wellemeyer just struck out the side; everyone happy," the Brewers overpaid for these studies.

Memo

From: Mark Attanasio, Brewers new owner
To: Rick Schlesinger, executive VP of Business Ops
Subject: Becoming a viable franchise

Hi Rick,

Do you like your job? If you do, we need to start making some more money. I don't want to lose for another twelve years, and we need money to keep guys like Dan Kolb.

It has come to my attention that we only sell out when the Cubs are in town.

We will also probably sell out when the evil empire comes to town.

Since no one in Milwaukee actually buys tickets to our park, lets get those Cubs fans... they've got too much money anyway.

Do it or your fired,

Sincerely,
Mark A.
