Defending Dubois
Recently, the Cub Reporter ran a sabermetrics type post attacking Jason Dubois for the deadly sin of striking out 16 times in his 39 MLB at-bats thus far this year. Over the years, the sabermetrics types have used the cry of "small sample size" to attack positions that they disagree with. Now, this sabermetrics guy runs a lengthy piece dumping on Dubois because of a pathetically small 39 at-bats. Talk about a small sample size!
First of all, strikeouts are really not all that bad. Its a lot better to strike out than to hit into a double play. When you strikeout, you are ensuring that the pitcher will have thrown at least 3 pitches, helping spruce up his pitch count and hastening his exit from the game. Also, its possible to have lots of strikeouts and still perform a valuable service for your team. Look at Cincinnati's Adam Dunn for instance. If Dubois could become the Cubs version of Dunn, then this team will be that much closer to becoming a World Series caliber squad.
In any event, Dubois deserves a real chance to prove himself worthy of wearing the Cubs uniform.

The difference between Dunn a
The difference between Dunn and Dubois is that Dunn draws a good number of walks, which Dubois doens't do. That said, I agree with you that Dubois deserves a chance to show what he can do at the big league level.
