Pignatiello's Night

West Tenn starting pitcher Carmen Pignatiello recorded 26 outs before allowing a hit last night. Pignatiello lost the no-hit bid with two outs in the 9th inning when Ronald Merrill, Jr. hit a seeing-eye grounder between first and second. Pignatiello finished the inning without allowing the run to score, which was important given that the game was tied at zero. Centerfielder Felix Pie won the game in the bottom of the 10th with a solo home run. West Tenn currently has the best record in the Southern League. Pignatiello has a 3.10 ERA in 52.1 innings this year, with a 47/18 K/BB ratio. Last year, he had a 4.38 ERA in 156.1 innings for high-A Daytona.
