Penn St. continues to outrank Iowa in coaches' poll

Not that it matters for the Fiesta Bowl's selection, but the coaches continue to rank Penn St. ahead of Iowa in the polls released today. Penn St. comes in at #9, while Iowa is at #10. They are both 10-2.

Iowa, of course, beat Penn St. at Penn St., 21-10.

Penn St. has played two games against currently ranked teams (Ohio St. and Iowa) and lost them both. Iowa's two losses are against Northwestern (after losing its starting quarterback while up 10-0) and at Ohio St.

Ohio St. handily defeated Penn St. at Penn St. Iowa, on the other hand, took Ohio St. to overtime on the road with a backup, redshirt freshman quarterback, making his first collegiate start.

The AP figured things out this week and reversed Iowa and Penn St., putting Iowa (#9) a spot above Penn St. (#10).

Yet the coaches still haven't figured out that Iowa had a better season than Penn St.

With a bowl victory, Iowa will finish in the AP top 10 for the fourth time in Kirk Ferentz's 11 seasons. Iowa had only had two AP top 10 finishes since Forest Evashevski's final year as coach in 1960 (1985 and 1991, both at #10).
