Minor League Roundup: June 2, 2005

Moore hits two homers in a doubleheader; & Peoria wins big.

ICubs lose 5-3. Phil Norton suffered the loss. DH Ben Grieve, shortstop Ronny Cedeno, and catcher Mark Johnson each had two hits.

West Tenn loses 6-3. A rare losing streak for the Diamond Jaxx. Starting pitcher Jon Connolly was knocked out early, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in 1.2 innings. Third baseman Casey McGehee went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Daytona loses 7-6 and 2-1 in 10 innings, in a doubleheader. In the 2-1 loss, starting pitcher Carlos Marmol pitched 6 innings of 1-run ball, and reliever Randy Wells pitched 3 shutout innings to move his ERA to 1.54 in 35 innings this year (36/7 K/BB ratio), but it wasn't enough. The sole offense was provided by third baseman Scott Moore's 11th home run of the year. As was expected yesterday, Brevard County started Ryan "Lil' Unit" Anderson against the Cubs, his first start since September of 2000. However, he only threw 1.1 innings. Let's hope that was planned, and not an indication of another injury for Anderson.

In the 7-6 loss, Scott Moore went 2-4 and hit his 12th home run of the year, and rightfielder JJ Johnson went 4-4 with his 3rd homer of the year.

Peoria wins 9-3. The Chiefs had 13 hits and drew 5 walks to score their 9 runs without a homer. Third baseman Drew Larsen went 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. Rightfielder Ryan Harvey went 3-4 with a double.
