Peoria's Weber Survives Line Drive to Elbow; Gallagher Doesn't Go Five For First Time; Johnson Has Successful Debut
This past Sunday, the Peoria Chiefs' starting pitcher Matt Weber took a line drive to his right elbow, a la Mark Prior, and had to leave the game, reports the Peoria Journal Star. Thankfully, the x-rays taken came back negative, the Journal Star reported the next day.
In fact, Weber was able to make his next scheduled start tonight. Coming into tonight, Weber had a 3.13 ERA in 69 innings, with a 44/7 K/BB ratio.
In other Peoria starting rotation news, ace Sean Gallagher failed to go five innings for the first time this year in his last outing, reports the Journal Star. He lasted 3.2 innings and allowed 3 runs after giving up 6 hits and walking 5. The outing moved his ERA all the way up to 1.17 on the year, in 69 innings.
Finally, the Cubs' 1st pick in the 2004 draft, Grant Johnson, who was picked in the 2nd round, made a successful debut last night. His line: 5IP, 3H, 1R, 1BB, 1K, 1HR.
