Borowski Designated for Assignment

As expected, the Chicago Cubs designated Joe Borowski for assignment today in order to make room for the return of Kerry Wood, reports MLB.com.

Roster

Interesting that after cutting Bartosh, Wilson, and now Borowski, the Cubs have three open spaces on the 40-man roster.

That is interesting. If Garciparra and Williamson return from the 60-day DL at all this year, two of those spots will be taken by them.

True, although they still have some dead weight; Russ Rohlicek and Ben Grieve are both eminently expendable. Hendry has given himself a lot of flexibility going into trade season; good for him.

So Long Joe

It was great to see him pitch in 2003 where he seemed to have caught lightning in a bottle. He never really struck me as the prototype closer, but his heart made up for his lack of power pitches.

I hope he can latch on to another team and continue to find relief work. I don't fault his effort, just his giving up the HR's, although his last inning against the Sox was fairly decent.
