Montanez Promoted to West Tenn

The Chicago Cubs promoted 2000 1st round draft pick (3rd overall) and leftfielder Luis Montanez from low-A Peoria to double-A West Tennessee, reports the Peoria Journal Star. Montanez has hit .305/.384/.521 this year for Peoria in 82 games. This is Montanez's 6th season in the Cubs' minor league system and his first stop above A-ball. He was sent down to short-season A ball last year to learn the outfield after his failure to progress as a middle infielder. West Tenn, of course, recently lost two outfielders to the big league club.

Montanez

Thanks for pointing this out. I had honestly forgotten about Montanez. It's good to see him finally figure things out to a degree, although it's likely that the degree is not that large considering he's a 23 year-old in low-A ball.

Still, if he can put up decent numbers at West Tenn, he could reestablish himself as somewhat of a prospect. I'm not optimistic he will, but good luck to him.
