Neifi! Returns

For one night at least, the exclamation point returns. With the bases loaded in the top of the 10th inning tonight against the Cardinals, Dusty Baker used Michael Barrett to pinch-hit for the pitcher's spot (with righty Al Reyes on the mound for St. Louis).

Barrett then K'd. And then Neifi! struck. Line drive gland slam down the right field line. Neifi!'s first home run in seven weeks, a period of time over which he has absolutely stunk. Serves the Cardinals right for always beating the Cubs with unlikely performances from people like Mike Matheny and Kerry Robinson.

Correction

Barret was pinch hitting for the pitcher's spot, not for Hollandsworth. Hollandsworth left the game as part of a double switch earlier with Gerut taking over left field.

Thanks for the correction

Frasier, thank you for pointing out my error. It was a silly one to make on my part.

Cedeno?

During all that 7 weeks of "stinkitude", why couldn't we see more Cedeno at SS? Now with the grand slam, Dusty will continue "loving" on Neifi and may be hard-pressed to play Nomar once he's up from rehab.

How about that Macias almost-sacrifice that he artfully turned into a double play? Yikes!

Ya gotta love Neifi-mania!
