Just Asking

Pondering a few issues while taking joy in the fact that the 1908 Chicago Cubs played the best fictional game ever.

  • Has anyone figured out what Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno are doing on this team? "We're getting them up here to play," saith Dusty Baker.
  • The standards for sourcing and opinion are relaxed for sports journalists compared to political journalists. If the standards are going to be relaxed, isn't it better to do it in the overt way Mike Kiley of the Chicago Sun-Times does -- which allows him to flat out say in a Cubs notes article that "Cubs management should have signed Alou last December for $7 million-$8 million for one year and everyone would have been happy" -- than in a subtle way?
  • Jody Gerut is a relative unknown among average Cubs fans. After last night's game, he is 0-9 as a Cub. How long of a pass does he get among the fans? Will we find out?
  • Len Kasper has done a fine job replacing Chip Caray. But when is he going to bring on fellow making-people-happy businessman Mike the Vendor? Oh, wait. They did that. Well, it's been more than a month. It's time to bring him back.
