Cubs Involved in Two of the Ten Most Lopsided Trades In History
Mike's Baseball Rants examines trades through the lens of career win shares, and lists the top ten most lopsided traded in baseball history. The Cubs are involved in two of them, and neither of them are Sandberg trade or the Brock trade.
Coming in at #3 is the December 5, 1988 trade in which Texas sent Curtis Wilkerson, Paul Kilgus, Mitch Williams, Steve Wilson, and two minor leaguers (Luis Benitez and Pablo Delgado) to the Cubs for Rafael Palmeiro, Jamie Moyer, and Drew Hall. The Cubs got some positive value out of Mitch Williams for a couple of years, while Palmeiro and Moyer went on to have very productive careers.
Coming in at #8 is a trade that worked in the Cubs' favor: On April 21, 1966, the Cubs sent Larry Jackson and Bob Buhl to the Phillies for Ferguson Jenkins, John Herrnstein, and Adolfo Phillips.
