Are We Done?

"I think the bottom line is that Dusty is just not the man for this team. They have the talent and the young core to make some noise for season's to come, but this man just does not have the guts to play young players and is too stubborn to change," writes Dennis Goodman at Northside Lounge. "I would put some weak ending line here about needing a win or having to keep pace, but this season is over. This team does not have the manager to get hot and contend. I guess we just hope they finish above .500." . . . more

According to Baseball Prospectus's Postseason Odds report, the Cubs have a 9.8% chance of making the playoffs. They not only need Garciaparra, Wood, and Williamson to return, they need them to play really well over the final two months.

Done

Are we done? No, we still have a 9.8% chance to make the playoffs.

But other than that, yeah, we're pretty much done. It'd be nice if Garciaparra, Wood, and Williamson play really well, but even if they turn into a 2001 A-Rod and two 1977 Sutters, it might not be enough. They'd still have to hope that no one else gets hot over the last 2 months.
