Remlinger Cut

The Chicago Cubs are doing what they have shown a historical hesitancy to do: eating a contract. In activating Nomar Garciaparra, Kerry Wood, and Scott Williamson today, the Cubs designated Mike Remlinger for assignment. They also put Jerry Hairston, Jr. on the 15-day disabled list and optioned Sergio Mitre to Iowa. This means that Jeromy Burnitz or Matt Lawton will likely become the everyday centerfielder and Ronny Cedeno will continue to wonder what his purpose on the roster is.

Macias in Centerfield Again

Well, Baker could put Burnitz in centerfield (with Lawton in right and Murton and left), but that would of course mean playing Murton. So Macias is in centerfield for the second straight night. We're not really going to see two weeks of that, are we?

Remlinger

I'll miss watching Dusty run Remlinger out there against lefties for no good reason, although he actually seemed to notice Rem's reverse splits at some point this year, at least to some extent.

Speaking of which, you know who else has a weird reverse split this year? Roberto Novoa. I think it's just a fluke, but it's worth watching.

Olivo Astacio, Jerry Hairston

Everyone remembers the "Astacio from Boston for Remlinger" trade...right?

So today I was curious where Olivo Astacio ended up.

I checked the cubs.com minor league roster pages and couldn't find him.

Although to be fair, I didn't check the Mesa Cubs page since the link didn't work.

I did notice that Jerry Hairston is listed on the Iowa Cubs roster.

Is this the norm when a MLB player goes on the DL ?

Remlinger, Clement, Red Sox
