Wellemeyer Recalled; Koronka Sent Back to Iowa

John Koronka didn't spend much time in his second stint with the big league club: two batters. The Cubs recalled Todd Wellemeyer on Sunday and sent Koronka back to the Iowa rotation. Wellemeyer will be the long-relief man out of the bullpen.

Wellemeyer

I'm starting to suspect that Hendry makes roster moves the same way that Dusty makes his lineups, with vague yet misguided notions of situational demands and a rather capricious eye for "matchups".

Now, don't get me wrong, I'd rather see Wellemeyer up than Koronka, so as far as that goes, thumbs-up. But sending Koronka down so soon just reinforces the notion that Hendry hasn't really formulated an actual plan.

Wellemeyer's Performance Tonight

Well, Wellemeyer wasn't very well tonight. Brought up to provide long relief, he didn't provide either.

Murton's first home run, Corey's all bases triple.

The game did have some happy moments though. I really thought we were going to win this one during the 4th inning... Didn't see the end of the game though. Was watching the game on time delay via the PVR and it was getting late. Wanted to make sure that the end of the game would get recorded. When the PVR went to live tv I could tell from the tone of Len & Bob's voice that this was not a victory for the Cubbies.

Over the past decades of following the Cubs I've noticed that the games vs. the Reds are usually fun games and the games vs. the Astros are usually a drag. I think what I'd like for a birthday gift is for the Astros to move out of the Central division so that the Cubs would play them less often.

Highlights from last night's game included...

Cubs Top 2nd

- Matt Murton two-out, solo Home Run (1) to right.

Cubs Top 4th

- Corey Patterson tripled to center on the play Corey Patterson scored on Craig Biggio`s throwing error.

I liked watching Corey's around all the bases triple. Did you see him slide into third then freeze...then zoom across home plate?
That should be in the season's highlight reel.
