Mr. Rogers, Meet Mr. Lawton

The Chicago Tribune's "Cubs Bits" column fell to columnist Phil Rogers on Wednesday. In a bit about Matt Murton, Rogers writes, "While Baker continues to platoon rookie Matt Murton and Todd Hollandsworth in left field, he is impressed with Murton."

Does Hollandsworth know about this arrangement? If so, why does he keep sitting on the bench during games?

Number of starts Hollandsworth, who is hitting .253/.302/.389 on the year, has received since the Cubs acquired Matt Lawton on July 31: one. And that was in rightfield.

This is not the first time that Rogers has made, and his editor has failed to catch, a simple mistake.

Lawton?

After last night I'm starting to wonder if Lawton is the table-setter we thought he would be. He came in with a respectable on-base percentage, but I have not seen much patience at the plate or base-hits from him. How much teeth-gritting was DLee grinding seeing Lawton and Neifi! in front of him stink it up? Yikes!

Murton was lucky to get the one hit that he did get last night, and I thought for sure we were going to see Holly come up for him late in the game after Pettite sat down and the Astros brought in a RH reliever. Seeing Burnitz come up was a little surprising. You know things are going bad for Holly when Macias is brought in to hit for the pitcher. I don't see where Todd Hollandsworth is with the team next spring.

With Murton-CPat-Lawton in the OF, it's like the Cubs are conceding offensive output. With Holly and Burnitz struggling, Dusty does not have many other options besides the 25th man on the bench: ma-see-ya-later.

RE: Lawton

Yes, Lawton's .259 OBA was not exactly what we were looking for.
