Ramirez to DL; Cedeno Recalled
The Cubs have put Aramis Ramirez on the DL with a strained quadricep. Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway because team management doesn't yet seem to get it), this development should take whatever wind was still in the Cubs playoff sails. I'd just as soon let Ramirez take the rest of the year off, since he's seemed to have nagging injuries bothering him all year (groin, back, and so forth). There's no reason I can think of to run him back out there for the last couple meaningless weeks of the year. This concept also applies to Kerry Wood, by the way.
In Ramirez's place, the Cubs have recalled proven rookie benchwarmer Ronny Cedeno, who figures to see Dusty make a mockery of the competitive nature of sport by playing Jose Macias regularly until the Cubs are mathematically eliminated, and maybe longer if the mood strikes. Good, smart teams make the best of injuries like this by using it as an opprtunity to see if their kids can play. But of course, good teams don't have Jose Maciases on their roster, either.

Third base
Looks like I was wrong; thank goodness for minor miracles. Nomar's getting a shot at third. A Nomar-Cedeno-Walker-Lee infield for the time being actually doesn't sound too bad.
Yeah, that infield doesn't so
Yeah, that infield doesn't sound too bad. But it's not going to happen much, with Neifi taking one of those spots each day.
Wait till next year.
The Season is over. It's time to wait till next year again. But this season we don't have to wait to get a preview of what we have. I say, sit Neifi, Lawton, Nomar, and Burnitz. We know what they're capable of. I want to see Cedeno, Murton, Pie, and Rich Hill. Let's see what holes we can plug internally before going out and spending ourselves into a bind like we did the last couple of seasons. Maybe a six or seven man rotation so we can see a battle for next years 5th starter.
Pie
Pie is, apparently, done for the year with a bum ankle.
