Orton the QB; Benson Signed

August 28, 2005 by cubsnet

After weeks of not very good news, the Bears had a couple of good announcements today: they named Kyle Orton the starting QB, after Chad Hutchinson failed to perform in the preseason; and they signed Cedric Benson.

Benson

Living in Texas, I've watched a lot of Benson the past couple years. He is and has always been hopelessly overrated, and the Bears will regret wasting such a high draft pick on him in time.

Not sure about Orton ... you're more of a Big Ten guy than me. I'm convinced that he's better than Hutchison, who is perhaps the least mobile quarterback ever (seriously), but I'm skeptical nonetheless. At any rate, what can you do at this point but play him?

It wouldn't be the first time in the last several years that the Bears have drafted a running back that turned out to have been overrated.

I like Orton, and did while he was at Purdue as well. That doesn't mean he's going to be a star or anything. But it's certainly worth throwing him out there, given the other options.
