Cubs Promote Eric Patterson, Others
The Cubs announced some minor league moves today, reports MLB.com: "Second baseman Eric Patterson was promoted to Double-A West Tenn and pitcher Matt Weber was promoted to Class A Daytona, and the Chiefs added pitcher Angel Guzman and recently-acquired pitcher Justin Berg to its roster."
Patterson hit .333/.405/.535 for Peoria this year. By leaving Peoria and bypassing Daytona for West Tenn, Patterson will get to experience the minor league playoffs this year.
Weber is a 20-year-old righthander with a 3.91 ERA in 142.2 innings with Peoria. He appears quite hittable, having allowed 173 hits. He does have good control, walking just 27.
Guzman, who originally appeared to be destined to not pitch at all this year, has thrown 8 shutout innings (1 BB; 12K) for the Cubs' rookie ball team in Mesa.
