Cubs Call Up Soto, Koronka
As expected, "the Cubs added catcher Geovany Soto and left-handed pitcher John Koronka from the Triple-A Iowa roster on Tuesday," reports MLB.com. Koronka has been with the big league club on two other occasions this year. Soto, 22, hit .253/.357/.342 in 292 at-bats and 48 walks for Iowa this season. Now that Iowa's season is done, I would have liked to have seen the Cubs call up Mike Fontonet as well.

Yeah, it'd be nice to see Fontonet too ... but it'd be even nicer if we could expect Baker to actually put these guys on the field. Let's get real: If he won't play Murton regularly what's he gonna do with a guy like Soto? Sure he's got better on base skills than anybody the Cubs used at leadoff this year ... but he's a 22 year old catcher with a SLG of less than 350. Soto will be lucky if Baker lets him catch warm up pitches in the bullpen.
What I'd really like to see is the Cubs call up one of their minor league managers to replace Dusty ...
Soto
Soto is an interesting prospect. He has very little power, obviously, but he's only 22 and has shown decent strike zone recognition while playing in AAA.
If he's a good defensive catcher - and I don't know one way or the other if he is - he looks like a keeper. It's hard to find catchers who are even playing in AAA at 22, so I don't know how valid the comparison is, but Soto's numbers look a lot like Jorge Posada's did as a 22-year-old in AAA.

I would like to see Ben Grieve up with the team also.
RE: Also
Grieve should have been on the team a long time ago, but he's no longer on the 40-man roster, so he won't be up.
