Diamond Jaxx Owner Still Trying to Find New City

There has been much disputing down in Jackson, Tennessee regarding the Cubs' Double-A affiliate West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx. The Jackson Sun (Dan Morris, "Jaxx still trying to find new host city," 2/26/2005) has the latest news, reporting today that "Diamond Jaxx owner Bob Lozinak told the city of Jackson on Friday he will not withdraw his letter of termination."

At the end of January, Lozinak had sent the city a letter stating he inteded to move the team after the 2005 season. The city asked Lozinak to withdraw the letter, which he refused. The Sun notes that "[a]ccording to his contract with the city, he is allowed to [leave Jackson] without penalty because he says the franchise has had operating losses of more than $1 million the past two seasons." The city, though, apparently has the option of purchasing the franchise for $11,347,500, but must notify Lozinak by March 13 that it intends to do so.
