Sullivan: Baker Likely To Be Offered Two-Year Extension

The Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan reports that "[m]anager Dusty Baker likely will be offered a two-year contract extension by next spring to remain with the Cubs after 2006." No source is cited for that report. The MLB.com daily Cubs notes column by Carrie Muskat does not contain that same information. Sullivan's report does not even focus on what would be some very significant news. Instead, the rest of the report discusses Baker's annoyance at being asked by the media whether he expected an extension.

UPDATE (10/3 9:15am): Mike Kiley of the Sun-Times has a similar statement: "[Jim] Hendry will receive a two-year contract extension next February or March in Arizona. Hendry is then expected to offer a similar extension to Baker." Kiley attributes his statement to unnamed "sources within the organization."
