Bulls Trade Curry to Knicks

Chicago Tribune:

The Bulls dealt center Eddy Curry to the New York Knicks on Monday, ending a contentious negotiation in which the Bulls insisted the restricted free agent take a DNA test over a heart problem.

In making the announcement, an obviously frustrated Bulls general manager John Paxson did not specify what the Bulls got in return and he did not field questions.

This is too bad. Curry was a very big part of the Bulls success last year. They are going to have a hard time replacing his offense. Good centers are just hard to come by. At the same time, I understand the Bulls' position in not offering him a long-term contract given his heart problems.

Bulls Get Tim Thomas, Others

More is now know on what the Bulls are apparently getting in return. From the Trib:

Sources say the Bulls will get Michael Sweetney, Tim Thomas and Jermaine Jackson, whom the Knicks re-signed Monday. Curry could make up to $10 million in his first year—nearly double the amount of the Bulls' qualifying offer.

New York also will include a first-round draft pick and two second round picks as well. The deal still was being finalized late Monday night.

It's not a lot, but it's actually more than I thought it would be, given the uncertainty of Curry's health status and inconsistent play. I'm underwhelmed by the players. The first round draft pick is nice.
