Lee's Offensive Season 4th Best in Cubs' History, Measured by OPS

Derrek Lee's performance this season was one of the best in Cubs' history. Lee finished with an adjusted OPS+ of 177 (in other words, 38.5% above the league average OPS, adjusted for ballpark effects). That 177 OPS+ is 4th in Cubs' history, just behind Sammy Sosa (201 in 2001), Rogers Hornsby (178 in 1929) and Hack Wilson (178 in 1930). The Cubs all-time single-season adjusted OPS+ leaderboard has been updated.

Lee's previous career best was 135 in 2003 for Florida. He has a 124 career OPS+.

Carlos Zambrano's 131 ERA+ (which is an ERA 31% above league average; there is no dividing by 2 as there is with OPS+, done because OPS combines on-base average and slugging average) led the staff, but was not good enough to crack the Cubs' single-season top 50. It is the second year in a row that Zambrano has led Cubs' starters in ERA+. His 2004 season is 15th on the leaderboard.
