On Dempster, Anderson, & Borowski's Nickname for Baker

Snippets following the third spring training game:

  • The Cubs are now 3-0 on the spring, on pace to never lose another game in the history of the franchise. It's just spring, but it's still fun to win.
  • In her Cubs notes column, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat writes that "[Ryan] Dempster could fill the vacancy in the Cubs rotation, or he could be in the bullpen as a setup pitcher, or he could fulfill the offseason rumors and be the closer." A rumor is a "a piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth." It is most definitely not Jim Hendry going around all offseason telling anyone who asked that Dempster would be given a shot as the closer this season.
  • Offered without comment: Joe Borowski calls Dusty Baker 'Bake'.
  • Finally, Scott Lange at the Northside Lounge has a good post about the inherent unfairness of baseball's league and divisional setups. NL Central teams are at a significant disadvantage, before a single game is played, for making the playoffs. No 12-year-old setting up a league from scratch would create such a silly setup. Why can't the adults who run MLB figure this out?
