Nomar No More

No suprise here: "The Cubs have not exactly told Nomar Garciaparra to take a hike, but they have advised the veteran free agent to feel free to see if he can "find a better fit" elsewhere," reports the Chicago Tribune's Fred Mitchell. To Furcal we go. And apparently there has been little consideration of putting Garciaparra in left.

Can somebody explain this to me?

"... one of the reasons to tie up Neifi is that we have [Ronny] Cedeno and we still have [Todd] Walker. And Cedeno is very good."

Huh? We signed Neifi because we already have Cedeno and Walker ... and Cedeno is very good? We gave a 2 year contract to one of the worst offensive players in baseball because the guy(s) that should be playing ahead of him are good?

Hendry does add later that he Neifi's "defense alone is well worth having", so maybe he's trying to say (read: I wish he was trying to say) that he signed Neifi as a defensive back up to Cedeno and Walker ... but I doubt it. Even if that's what he did mean, it's still an odd move to lock up a scrub for two years when you've got better options already in the organization and have started salivating over Furcal to boot ...

Anybody got a clue?

Anybody got a clue?

No.

Nomar

I remember how excited I was when Hendry traded for Nomar. It's too bad that we never got to see him at his best, and I wish him well.

But, at least we still have Matt Murton!
