Cubs Rightfield?

I just wanted to see who people think the cubs will get to play right field. Thoughts?

Furcal gone, so bank on unhappy Oriole!

With Furcal out of the picture, a recent article plastered throughout the net this week got me thinking. The acquisition of Miguel Tejada, who reportedly has become frustrated with his current club, would solidify the Cubbies dream of a World Series title dramatically. It would take a lot for the Cubs to pick up Tejada (Walker, Williams, Wellemeyer, and Hill) - especially from the team that we stuck with Sosa (I think we gave them a couple bucks to compensate them for their babysitting services though). Tejada's contract might also be appealing to the Cubs, given the explosion of salaries this off season, not to mention how much the Cubs were prepared to offer Furcal. The offense that Tejada would provide might make taking a chance on Bradley more digestable. With Mabry and hopefully Hairston on the bench, Dusty would also have a decent Plan "B". Moving Cedeno to second base and batting at the bottom of the order would allow the Cubs to continue to develop him into the quality ball player that he has the potential to be. What do think?

Tejada would be great, but not Bradley

I agree with everything you say, except the Bradley being more digestable part. Bradley would be a cancer to the Cubs. There has already been a lot of tension between the team and the fans and he would never help that situation. If any ballplayer needs a babysitter, it's him.

And secondly, I think it makes more sense to keep Patterson and move him to right (he has the arm) then to go for Bradley. Corey had a horrible tail-end of '04 and a nightmare in '05, but he still has more power, speed, and potential than Bradley. Although keeping Patterson only works if you get someone like a Tejada who is guaranteed to bring in a lot of runs.

Interesting point...

While the opportunity/reality of Tejada is becoming more and more unlikely, I feel it necessary to question your proposed role of Patterson. I could (reluctantly) see keeping Patterson in the line up, despite a painful '05 season. But don't you see Patterson better off in center and moving Pierre to right? That's some pretty serious speed between the two.
Just to keep it interesting, what do people think about S.Green from the Diamondbacks as an answer to fill the need in right field? I'm not too psyched on Mench or Huff - despite posing more of a threat than Burnitz.

I could go for Green

I think Green would do a good job. Decent power, although he strikes out a lot, but has a higher career average than Mench or Huff.

As for Patterson or Pierre in right, Pierre is known to have one of the weaker arms in the majors so I think Patterson would be a better fit, although one could argue you want the better arm in center. I've always been a supporter of Corey and I'd love it if he could return and produce like he's capable of. I guess my problem is, most of the options I've heard recently (Jacque Jones and Milton Bradley) don't sound like improvements over Corey. You're right though, it looks like Tejada will not happen so I'll have to get used to the idea of the Cubs trading Patterson and finding a more guaranteed run producer for right field.

I still hope the Cubs land Julio Lugo for SS. I think Pierre/Lugo/Lee/Ramirez starting the lineup could produce a LOT of runs next year.

Green

Green wouldn't be a bad idea - a definite upgrade over Burnitz - but I doubt the Cubs could get him. He apparently has a no-trade clause that prevents him from being traded to anyone other than SF, San Diego, and the Angels.
