Chance of Sisco Sticking With Royals Growing
ESPN.com had an "Insider" article by Jerry Crasnick on Andy Sisco, the lefty drafted by the Royals from the Cubs in the Rule V draft. GoatRiders.org has a summary of the article for non-subscribers.
I had originally assumed that Sisco wouldn't stick with the Royals for the whole year, meaning he would have to be offered back to the Cubs for $25,000. After all, he only had a 4.21 ERA in high-A ball last year. However, GoatRiders.org's summary of the article includes this statement: "Last season, Sisco's velocity was down to the high 80s and he went 4-10 at Daytona. This year, in spring training, Sisco is throwing in the mid 90s."
When I saw Sisco pitch in August 2003, he was throwing 90-91. So the high 80s at the end of last year would not be out of the ordinary. The mid-90s this spring would be a big jump. Without further confirmation, I am skeptical that he's really throwing that hard. But if he is, it may prove to have been a mistake by the Cubs to not protect Sisco by putting him on the 40-man roster.
