About to be Sold for a Hill of Beans
The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly reports, in an article picked up by fellow Tribune Co. paper the Chicago Tribune, that "the Orioles are 'closing in' on a deal that would send a minor-leaguer to the Cubs for [Corey] Patterson, according to one industry source." The minor-leaguer is not one of the Orioles' top five prospects. The completion of such a trade would appear to mean that the Cubs are not close to reaching a deal for the Orioles' Miguel Tejada, as Patterson would likely be involved in any such deal if the Orioles are willing to trade for him in any event. It would also mean that the Cubs do not feel confident in using Patterson either 1) on their team, off the bench or 2) as part of a package in a bigger trade.
