cubsnet: The first game all year in which the Bears' offense scored more than 10 points and the Bears lost.
Yeah, the one bright spot in the game is that Grossman clearly has a future in the league if he can stay healthy. He started very poorly, but regrouped to keep the Bears in the game. Unfortunately, it seems as if the Bears neglected to come up with a gameplan on defense.
Charles Tillman capped off an inconsistent year with a truly awful game. It appeared that every big play (except one) the Panthers got was on him (in fairness, though, it can be tough to tell who's responsible for what on TV). Either the coaches refused to get him help, or the help failed to execute. After seeing the Bears come out of a timeout with Chris Thompson lined up across Steve Smith, leading to a touchdown by Smith, I'm guessing the former.
I can't be too upset, because like almost every other person on the planet, I didn't expect the Bears to be better than 6-10 before the season. Or even after Week 1, for that matter. But I hate to see the season end with such a poor effort on defense, by players and coaches alike. The offense wasn't great, but they played well enough to win.
Oh well. Big need this offseason: possesion receiver. This team needs someone like Keyshawn Johnson that Grossman can look to for tough yardage without having to go through his full progression on every play.
I agree. It's hard be upset by the loss. Carolina has been playing great. And no one expected the Bears to be there. Next year on the other hand . . . .
As for receivers, it should help to have Mark Bradley back from injury.

My family drove thru downtown Chicago Sunday night.
(No, we didn't attend the Cubs convention.)
Here are some of the photos I took of the Chicago cityscape.
