Pierre, Ohman Sign

So much for the showdown (does it rise to that level?) in Florida over Will Ohman's contract. Ohman and Juan Pierre have both signed 1-year deals to avoid arbitration hearings. Initial reports state that Pierre's contract is for $5.75M and Ohman's is for 610K. Only Carlos Zambrano's case remains.

Pierre

I wonder if this affects Pierre's chances of being signed to a long-term deal.

Long-term deal for Pierre

I thought this comment by Hendry in the Trib was interesting: "We'll leave it up to Juan's side if they want to sit down [about a multiyear deal] in the spring."

So the Cubs aren't going to pursue it right now, but they'll talk about it, it seems.
