Dusty Baker Dodgers/Cubs Trivia question

February 21, 2006 by diana

Years ago the Cubs played a game that lasted 21 innings.

Dusty Baker played center field against us and because his team had run out of outfielders, two pitchers were playing right and left field.

The questions are:

Who won the game?

When was it played?

How many days did it take to finish?

Who were the outfielder pitchers for the opposing team?

Did the Cubs play any of their players at different positions than usual as a result of the very long running game?

Vs. Dodgers

The game was August 17, 1982, at home versus the Dodgers, who won the game 2-1. The game took two days to complete. Starting pitchers Bob Welch and Fernando Valenzuela played the field.

Baker switched outfield positions three times. No Cubs starter appears to have shifted positions, but I'm too lazy to look at the bench.
