Prior Status Report

It's been nearly two weeks since Will Carroll's report that reliable sources told him that Mark Prior was suffering from shoulder problems (which is a different problem than the past two springs; in 2004 and 2005 it was his elbow), and Prior still needs "gets the arm strength where it should be," says Larry Rothschild in Sunday's Chicago Tribune.

Rothschild also says, "Maybe he's not a spring-training guy. You hate to think about it that way, but . . . ." In other words, we may have to go through this every spring training with Prior. Personally, I preferred the days when everyone thought Prior's perfect mechanics would keep him perfectly healthy for 20 years.

Here's Prior current, tentative (aren't they all?) schedule:

  • Sunday, March 5: heavy bullpen session
  • Monday, March 6: light throwing
  • Tuesday, March 7: bullpen session
  • Thursday, March 9: faces hitters for the first time
  • Saturday or Sunday, March 11 or 12: starts in first spring training game of the year

Rothschild on Prior's Bullpen Session Today

Larry Rothschild just said that Mark Prior's 50 pitch bullpen session went very well today, on WGN's broadcast of today's spring training game. Rothschild said Prior looked close to what he normally does in such sessions mid-season.

Prior's Health

I have never seen anyone as neurotic as the typical cub fan. Everyone thinks that anything bad that can happen, will happen..

Lighten up, it's too early to hang crepe.
