2006 Cubs GM moves
There are so many times one can say "Wait until next year." Well, it's next year. Picking up Juan Pierre was exactly the type of leadoff hitter I would have picked if I were the Cubs' GM. Staying with a strong pitching staff of Prior, Wood, Maddux, Williams, and Zambrano instead of using them as trade bait was yet another strong move, this time by not making one. If anything, this Cubs' team needs some more bullpen pitching. Middle Relief and Closer are what scare me. Rich Hill, Glendon Rusch, are streaky and scare me. Rusch's control is at least a little better than Hill who I remember in one game walking 4 straight batters allowing one run to score before giving up a grand slam. But if this team(especially the pitching) stays healthy, there's no reason it cannot make a serious run for the National League Central title. It will certainly be there for at least the Wild Card. I won't go as far to say they will win the World Series, but if the moves made and not made in the off-season are any indication, the Cubs are finally going in the right direction. It should be an interesting year.
