Bears Sign Griese
"Seeking stability at a position that historically has provided them anything but, the Bears agreed to terms Tuesday with veteran quarterback Brian Griese on a five-year deal," reports the Chicago Tribune. "Acquiring Griese, an eight-year veteran, will provide backup experience for the injury-plagued Rex Grossman and possibly eliminate one albatross that rightly or wrongly has colored general manager Jerry Angelo's tenure."
The Bears had money to spend, and they made sure they weren't going to be scrambling for a backup QB again. Griese has averaged 7.1 yards per attempt over his career. The last Bears' QB to do that over just half a season was Erik Kramer in 1998. I'm eager to have Grossman play a full season. He's got star potential. But Griese is more than a capable backup.
