Cubs Blog Roundup -- II
A look at some good, recent writing from the Cubs Blog Army:
-
Al Yellon reviews the new book Wrigleyworld, by Kevin Kaduk: "Somehow, [Kaduk] managed to talk a publishing house into allowing him to write a book about just going to Cubs games every day for an entire season... so he quit his job and moved back to Chicago, crashing like a lame-duck college kid with some friends in the Wrigleyville area, and set out to attend every Cub game in 2005."
-
Ross Barnes at Gonfalon Cubs notes that Cubs' hitting coach Gene Clines never seems to mention the importance of on-base average.
-
Mastrick at View from the Bleachers notes that Hee-Seop Choi has been waived by the Los Angeles Dodgers and picked up by the Boston Red Sox, who will likely send him to triple-A Pawtucket. The Red Sox should be a good organization for Choi. I have to say that I'm surprised that Choi is not a star by now. Even though he's not a star, he continues to be undervalued by many in baseball. Jon Weisman at Dodger Thoughts has more. And Cliff Corcoran at Bronx Banter compares Choi to another Red Sox' pickup three years ago, a then 27-year-old David Ortiz.
-
Derek Smart at Cub Town considers the potential benefits of bringing along Jae-kuk Ryu as a long reliever, something other teams have done with future starting pitchers with some success.
-
Joel Boehm at Agony & Ivy thinks there's a good chance Derrek Lee established a new level of performance last year that is going to carry into this season.
