5-for-5 for Fontenot

June 25, 2007 by Squib Hits

Mike Fontenot entered tonight's game hitting a nice .345 in 62 plate appearances. A 5-for-5 performance later, and he was up to .397. Fontenot's five hit game was the second of the year for the Cubs. He joins Alfonso Soriano, who performed the feat earlier this month on June 4. The last time the Cubs had two players get five hits in a game during the same season was 2004, when Derrek Lee (twice) and Corey Patterson did it. Fontenot Down; Marmol Up

May 18, 2007 by Squib Hits

As expected, Mike Fontenot's (now third) stay with the big league club was short. After two at-bats, the Cubs sent him back down to AAA Iowa in favor of a 7th reliever, this time Carlos Marmol.

Fontenot Called Up

May 15, 2007 by cubsnet

Mike Fontenot deserved his call-up. It took some minor injuries to Derrek Lee and Mark DeRosa to make it happen, though. And for that reason, it might not be any longer than his two brief call-ups in 2005.

Eric Patterson Extends Multi-Hit Game Streak to Seven Games

May 13, 2007 by cubsnet

After today's 17-7 win, the Iowa Cubs are now 21-16 and in first place in the American North division of the Pacific Coast League. Two infielders are playing big parts in Iowa's success: second baseman Eric Patterson and third baseman (and 2B and SS) Mike Fontenot.

Patterson was 2-for-4 with 2 walks today and now has had a multi-hit game in seven straight games. For the year, he's hitting .339/.389/.517.

Coats up over Restovich and Fontenot

August 24, 2006 by tcub23

Does anyone have any idea what Restovich or Fontenot have done so that they did not get the call up over Coats? Fontenot is batting .296 and is a legitimate infielder. Restovich is batting .297 and is 3rd in the league with 24HR. Coats was batting .277 and does not play the infield very well. Both Fontenot and Restovich have had very productive years, but yet have not been given an opportunity to play with the big club.
